On a sunny winter day seven regulars from West Footscray Neighbourhood House’s weekly drop in program visited The Shrine for a tour and enjoyed a picnic in the nearby parkland. The Shrine was chosen by the group—some because of their interest in military history and some because they have never had the chance to visit before. The group travelled on public transport, an experience in itself for some of the group!

Soul House is a program focusing on social inclusion and participation. Each week socially isolated local residents come and enjoy a coffee, some lunch and of course lots of conversation. Typically living alone or in insecure housing, many of the participants lead very routine lives, perhaps going to the shops but certainly not on recreational outings. All the participants loved the day and really banded together, helping one another to be involved. They are looking forward to the next outing to the Queen Victoria Market.

Outings are a new aspect of Soul House and are thanks to money raised in this year’s Seddon Bendigo Bank Community Pitch. A big thank you to the Pitch Partners who contributed!
