Community Pitch Story No. 1 – Yarraville Special Developmental School

News

Yarraville Special Developmental School pitched at this year’s Community Pitch night for support to buy sensory items for our students with profound sensory seeking or avoiding behaviours.

Well, their allied health team went bananas with your pitch funds, and bought a selection of supports including; weighted blankets for each classroom, weighted sand balls, vibrating pillows, body socks (see photo), two sets of headphones and ipod touches – which will be used to implement an incredible therapeutic listening program.

“We are utterly delighted to be able to support our students with these items, and just wanted to share with you all our extended thanks, again.” reported Hannah Whittaker from Yarraville Special Development School.

In other good news, the recent short film made by students and staff at YSDS just won the Nova Choice award, in the Focus on Ability film festival.  They are delighted with this result.  If you didn’t get a chance, catch it at: https://www.focusonability.com.au/FOA/films/Samuel_Baker_-_Student_Friend_and_Firefighter_1427.html
