“Defib in a Day” Fundraiser

We did it! With the wonderful support of teachers, parents and volunteers from Footscray West Primary School, we were able to help raise $2,400 to enable the school to purchase a defibrillator.

The school approached Seddon Community Bank to ask for assistance in funding a defibrillator, who the suggested taking the fundraiser beyond the school grounds and into the wider community to drum up support. The “Defibrillator in a Day” campaign was born.

And what better community event to get out into the local community than the local West Footscray Festival of Colours. Seddon Community Bank kicked off the fundraiser with a $500 donation and provided the site, marquee and volunteers to spruik for donations on the day, while the school community provided a huge array of homemade cakes, biscuits, sweets, jams and plants for the produce stall.

“The community were fantastic. We were amazed at the generous donations from passers-by as well as many of the local traders. There were a few doubters who didn’t think we could do it in a day, however the wider community were happy to help and really appreciated the school’s initiative to provide a defibrillator to the local community, said Branch Manager, Ashley Coles.

“Apart from hitting the fundraising target, our volunteers had lots of fun and laughs. We always find we get the best results when working with another community group, and in this case the staff from the school were great. We’re really happy with the result.”

Thanks to the West Footscray community for helping to make great things happen.
