Event Details

Warm up this winter solstice as fire meets metal during Footscray’s fifth biennial Blacksmith Festival on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 June. With the support of the Maribyrnong City Council’s Festival City Program this year’s festival will bring together blacksmiths from across Australia to showcase this not-so-lost trade.
Program highlights:
– Artist blacksmith Will Maguire will lead a four-day sculpture collaboration in the main tent involving thirteen blacksmiths, working in teams, to forge a sculptural seat.
– The forever popular ‘give-it-a-go’ sessions for those with no experience at all to forge their own little project in 30 minutes.
– Check out the demonstrations running all day by our visiting blacksmiths and browse their hand-forged gifts and wares on offer.
– The kids will love our fire-free kid-smith zone where they get to take part in the action.
– The festival bar will be open to 8pm on Saturday night giving you plenty of time to soak up the winter solstice vibes.
– Wood fire pizza and the best Indian food around.
– Denise Axelsen is teaching the Women’s beginner workshop – make your own candle holder and hooks.
– Shawn McIntyre workshop providing those with foundational blacksmithing skills a chance to forge their own blacksmiths knife.
– Live music by roaming buskers.
– #150mmchallengeaus metal art exhibition at the Gabriel Gallery, FCAC.
The Blacksmiths Festival is the perfect place to enjoy this year’s winter solstice weekend with friends. To find out more or enrol in workshops check out the blacksmithsfestival.com.
