Events

Ethiopian New Year is a key event in the calendar for all Ethiopian people. The New Year Festival, held annually in Nicholson St Mall since 2005, is an opportunity for the Ethiopian community to express and celebrate their culture and identity, whilst promoting community harmony and social connectedness.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Festival which includes music, song and dance from Ethiopian and other cultures, cultural demonstrations, and presentations by Ethiopian leaders, story tellers and poets. Traditional Ethiopian dancing is performed by primary and secondary school aged children, and each year a highlight of the Festival is the fashion parade of traditional and contemporary Ethiopian fashion.
