Event Details

Lost Lands Found is a brand new high density development and an ecological art project being established right in the middle of Altona.

However, this new urban development is not highlighting people, but significantly our ecological neighbours – Altona’s local Indigenous wildflowers, grasses, herbs and lilies. The concept of the space is to create a small ‘enhanced’ local flowering grasslands micro-habitat – a secret wild ecological space, a local landscape and place as if suspended in time, suspended in place: a Lost Lands Found.

The Lost Lands Found creative program will provide an opportunity for people to learn more about the ecological installation.

? Session 1:
Dean Stewart, proud Wemba Wemba Wergaia man, will provide an overview of his project Lost Lands Found. He will discuss the biodiversity and significance of grasslands and in particular their demise. His knowledge of plant species, insects etc. will inspire and inform ideas for the creative program.

This session will include drawing and sketching ideas. Materials will be provided.

Date: Saturday 5 October
Time: 2pm to 5pm
Location: Altona Homestead, Logan Reserve, Altona

? Session 2:
Chris Rockley, scientific illustrator and designer will guide you to explore the flora and fauna of the grassland environment.

Participants will create a square repeatable drawing with a combination of grassland species that can be later printed on wrapping paper or fabric or be for digital use.

Date: Saturday 19 October
Time: 2pm to 5pm
Location: Woods Street Art Space, 44 Woods Street, Laverton

? Sessions 3:
