Event Details

Presented by Hobsons Bay City Council and Little Projection Company

In 1919 thousands of local residents gathered at the site of the partially constructed Greek revivalist Town Hall to witness an historic moment when Williamstown was declared a city. A century later, Hobsons Bay celebrated this momentous occasion with a dedicated, immersive experience designed to recapture the sentiment and pride and celebrate together again.

Working in collaboration with the Little Projector Company and a generous community effort from local historians and contributors, a stunning, movable feast called the ‘Centenary Projection Tour’ engaged and enriched the lives of those who followed the little projector bike for a stroll back in time. The tour used original collection material, sound and creative interpretation to give a sense of how the area felt in past.

Projected against some of Williamstown’s much loved, admired and occasionally overlooked built environments, hundreds of curated images dating back over 100 years recreated life over time here in the Inner West.

After a hiatus in 2020, the Heritage Hobson Bay Festival is delighted to announce the return of the ‘Centenary Projection Tour’ on the 24 and 25 April during the 2021 Australian Heritage Festival.

Four tours of approximately one hour in length will run over two nights and are free to the general public. We look forward to a walk down memory lane with you again.
