The IWSO revives Footscray’s orchestral legacy with a Roaring 20’s season opener.

Experience a thrilling afternoon of music at the Williamstown Town Hall as the Inner West Symphony Orchestra kick off their 2026 season with a program capturing the creative energy of Paris during the Roaring 20s.

This season opener is a special one, for it is 80 years since the inner west’s only other orchestra, the City of Footscray Symphony Orchestra, debuted at the very same venue. That orchestra was led by Otto Grobbecker, who went on to become president of the Footscray Football Club during its legendary 1954 Premiership season. Who said sport and classical music don’t mix?

Now, eight decades later, the IWSO, generously supported by Community Bank Seddon, proudly carries the baton: they’re on a mission to bring orchestral music back to life in the west.
