Westsider Radio had another first in March when they streamed live from the Yarraville Festival. They set up in front of the Sun Theatre and hosts Brian, Bella and Jack chatted to many wonderful westies including the Mayor of Maribyrnong, various local traders and one of Yarraville’s most famous sons, 98-year-old former jockey Ron Hutchinson. Ron shared that he was once a lolly boy at the Sun Theatre, back when it had only just opened!
Station Manager, Adam Weatherall was pleased, “We had an incredible response to our call for show applications and the programming team will be going through them all in the coming weeks.”
Based at Kindred Studios, it’s their goal is to create a hyperlocal community station that really belongs to the west. Somewhere people from all backgrounds can learn the ropes, make and share radio and podcasts, hear local voices and make connections along the way.
As well as show applications, the Westsider Radio is open to volunteers, needing people who can learn and master the platforms and upload content, help build their social media, train others on the studio equipment and reach out to community groups across the west.
