We’ve been a proud supporter of the Money Mentor Program since it’s inception in 2018, with the aim to educate and empower young people to make effective financial decisions and create a foundation for a strong financial future.
Program Facilitator, Angela Martin, was happy to give us an update after a busy end to the financial year. Having recently wrapped up delivery of her Financial Literacy Program to this years’ cohort of middle secondary school students at Altona, Maribyrnong & Mount Alexander Colleges and The Academy of Mary Immaculate, Angela is now looking ahead to expand the program to a wider audience. To date, the Money Mentor program has delivered their evidence and research-based program to a whopping 1500 students primarily in the inner west and is planning to further its reach to more high schools within the region and beyond.
Originally the Money Mentor program was designed to assist those that are at the start of their financial journey. Students taking their first step into the workforce with casual employment are assisted with understanding income tax, superannuation, managing credit and more.
Angela is now looking to reach job starters that have recently commenced full-time work and considering their first big financial decisions such as taking out a loan or purchasing their first car. The Money Mentor program is looking to connect with organisations and groups that represent or advocate for new employees or contractors that would benefit from this valuable education.
Supported by the Inner West Community Foundation, The Money Mentor program has experienced exceptional growth over the last 2 years and is proud to be helping young people make a strong financial foundation on which to create a lifetime of sound judgments and effective financial decisions.
